Could Amazon break the mould and go for the first American Bond?

Mr. Le Drian has spoken with his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, but Germany’s American bond involves no less than the country’s postwar rebirth, something unshakable.

The Fed has said it is buying a broad set of bonds reflecting a swath of companies that issue in the American bond market, and many foreign-based companies borrow in that market.

David Wessel, director of the Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy at Brookings, said the makeup of the index reflects how globalized the American bond market — and any particular slice of it — is today.

“It’s the American bond holders that are calling the shots and they may have a different agenda, I don’t know how they will react.”
