Trump’s latest motion for a directed verdict came after his defense team concluded their case.

Last week, according to The Daily Beast, the former president's defense asked the judge for a "directed verdict," which is essentially an outright victory that brings the case to a close.

The trial is proceeding after Engoron rebuffed the defense’s request last week to end it early through what’s known as a directed verdict.

The defense says Ms. James failed to prove her claims, so the Trump team asked Judge Arthur Engoron for a directed verdict in his favor.

Prosecution lawyer Kevin Wallace said the defense’s arguments “sounded more like closing arguments” and that there was no basis for a directed verdict.
