Over the last five years, Emmen Ahmed, 26, developed a following of nearly 18,000 on Instagram by depicting South Asian faith and femininity in earth-toned illustrations.

He returned last Dec. 23 in the first of five appearances during the 2021-22 season as second-half substitute, and he played the second half of this season’s opening match against Emmen on Aug. 6.

I was there on a road trip with my parents, and we stopped in the middle of the night in a small town called Emmen.
