Part of the presidential jet's landing gear malfunctioned while approaching the runway, causing a rough landing, airport authorities said.

The plane "stopped some distance before the end of the runway" but airport firefighting crews were called to put out a fire on the right-hand landing gear.

Norwich Airport said the private plane carrying two people was diverted to its runway at about 13:50 BST on Sunday after it reported issues with its landing gear.

However, the mission was short-lived as the spacecraft landed on the slope of a crater, broke some landing gear and toppled over.

It seems to have touched down with one wheel first, Mr Chan told the BBC, which might have caused the landing gear to collapse on impact.
