The River Ness, which flows from Loch Ness to the Moray Firth, was the only river sampled not to show traces of TFA.

Residents of a small village on the Moray Firth coast fear they will be cut off by the sea.

The animals are thought to be two from a trio of the same species spotted in the Moray Firth earlier.

It was spotted entering the Moray Firth on 10 November and seen about 30 nautical miles east of Lossiemouth, home to the RAF's Maritime Patrol Aircraft fleet before heading slowly west.

Around the Moray Firth, a triangular notch of the North Sea off Wick, there is abundant evidence of cleaner energy replacing fossil fuels.
