The new Canadian prime minister told the King that his Order of Canada pin had broken this morning.

The allegations led to her recently returning her Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honour.

Peter Savaryn, a former chancellor of the University of Alberta, was given the Order of Canada in 1987.

Mr Savaryn was a founding member of the Alberta Cultural Heritage Council, and was awarded the Order of Canada for promoting multiculturalism.
