The program makes some supplies available, and additional creative inspiration is on offer in the museum-rich city, and in nearby Padua, where Giotto’s Scrovegni Chapel frescoes, beloved by both John Ruskin and Marcel Proust, await.

Each place was set with Villeroy & Boch tableware — inky blue with a sprinkling of minuscule gold-colored stars — that Sciò, taking inspiration from the Giotto-painted Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, designed herself for her online shop, Issimo.

Earlier this month, the northeastern city of Padua, noted for its early 14th-century Giotto frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel, and Montecatini Terme, a well-preserved thermal spa town in Tuscany, also made the list.

Friedrich, who cast himself and Dia’s founders as modern Medicis, likened this philosophy to the almost spiritual certitude that Giotto’s frescoes will always be there in Padua when you step into the Scrovegni Chapel.

He restored celebrated frescoes of Raphael, among many other works at the Vatican, and also participated in the restoration of Giotto’s 14th-century frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel of Padua, Italy.
