In some Indigenous cultures, people who embody both male and female spirits have been identifying as “two-spirit” for thousands of years.
That activity invites young people to create art and explore the rich legacies and local histories of Black trans women, Black gender diverse individuals, and Queer Indigenous or Two-Spirit people.
“There are not a lot of stories focused on trans masculine people, let alone trans masculine people who are Indigenous. When To Use
Two-spirit is a third gender found in some Native American cultures, often involving birth-assigned men or women taking on the identities and roles of the opposite sex. A sacred and historical identity, two-spirit can include but is by no means limited to LGBTQ identities.
