During the first two decades after the attacks of 9/11, our government normalized extrajudicial detention and deportation as part of its global War on Terror under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

The original five-film franchise spanned 2000 to 2011, years that included the Y2K panic, 9/11, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the two presidential terms of George W. Bush.

Those lessons went on to improve how victims' families were treated in the aftermath of 9/11, when four planes flying over the eastern US were seized simultaneously by hijackers, killing 2,977 people.
