It is the second time France will have hosted a Paralympics after the 1992 Winter Games in Tignes and Albertville.

France has never previously hosted a summer Paralympics, although it did stage the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville.

It will be the fourth time that France has staged the Winter Olympics but the first since Albertville 1992.

Mattel duplicated everything the then 20-year-old medalist wore at the Olympics in Albertville, France: the sparkling black-and-gold brocade outfit designed by Lauren Sheehan, the gold hair ribbon and even a red-and-white bouquet like Yamaguchi held atop the podium.

At the 1992 Winter Games hosted by nearby Albertville, Val d’Isere staged men’s Alpine races and the giant slalom was won by Italian great Alberto Tomba.
