Karen Alea, who hosts the podcast "Deconversion Therapy," told Salon that she and her co-host, known only as Bonnie, wanted to share the "funny and odd experiences" they and others like them had "growing up as Christians."

He saw "Papa Smurf flying over his head into the fire," Alea said, followed by a cloud of "blue toxic smoke."

Alea is amused by the trolls, who she says typically can't even land good insults.

"This reveals where modern Christianity is today. I let it display itself," Alea said.

Alea Britain had checked into Hotel Maya the night before and was planning to spend Friday jet skiing with friends.
