In the statue, the first large-scale rendition in the U.S. of the sacred figure, Mary is depicted standing on a cloud, wearing a traditional Vietnamese ao dai dress and khan dong hat.

On Friday, wearing black and the traditional ao dai dress, she and her husband drove to the U.S.

They filled it with bamboo purses and elegant pastel riffs on the ao dai, a traditional Vietnamese dress-pant combo. 

The visitor can glimpse their wardrobes, with many colorful ao dai — Vietnam’s national costume — hanging on a rack.
