Sir Rob Behrens explained the ombudsman could only investigate following a complaint, but that for understandable reasons of bereavement or trauma, many families in Essex did not complain following the deaths of loved ones.

Dr Behrens said: "By targeting POL I with inhibitors, we were able to kill leukaemia cells and stop their growth in our pre-clinical and human tissue models."

Mr Behrens, the parliamentary and health service ombudsman who investigates unresolved complaints against NHS England, said everyone deserves safe and effective care.

"A virus cannot reproduce without producing its proteins," explains Professor Sven-Erik Behrens from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at MLU.

Plaintiff Lydia Mojica Behrens called Sunny Hills in February 2022 hoping to find a place for her 89-year-old mother, who suffers from debilitating arthritis and other conditions, according to the lawsuit.
