A fascinating drawing from the era shows an extensive passenger interchange below the Black Prince statue in City Square with bright blue trams heading off to destinations such as Roundhay Park, Guiseley and Morley.

Above that is a 170-carat lump of red, the Black Prince’s ruby, supposedly worn in the helmet of Henry V at his improbable victory over the French at Agincourt.

The Queen was particularly keen on a large red gemstone in the crown - known as the Black Prince's Ruby.

AJ Tracey's performance takes place at The Regal, a basketball court that belongs to south London community hub, the Black Prince Trust.

She settled on writing instead, and her first book, “The Black Prince and Other Stories,” was published in 1954, when she was 26.
