Two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro plays ex-president George Mullen, who comes out of retirement to head the Zero Day Commission while hiding his cognitive decline from wife Joan Allen, aide Jesse Plemons, ex-chief of staff Connie Britton and congresswoman daughter Lizzy Caplan.

Finagling MacLachlan and Britton is a major coup for a small-but-mighty show like this one.

Both actors love an inane, scene-stealing role — think MacLachlan in “Portlandia” or Britton in “American Horror Story” and “Nashville” — but here, they get to really chew scenery.

But Britton and MacLachlan certainly help draw an audience.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office alleges Christopher Britton, of Fairfield, burglarized classrooms at several schools in February, making off with credit cards and running up thousands of dollars in unauthorized purchases.
