We lived on Las Casas for 30 years.

The members of Rawayana — Montenegro, Antonio Casas, Andrés Story and Alejandro Abeijón — were still kids when leftist Hugo Chávez won the presidency in 1998 and began nationalizing Venezuela’s industries and consolidating power.

Under their independent label Brocoli Records, Montenegro and his bandmates Antonio “Tony” Casas, Andrés “Fofo” Story and Alejandro “Abeja” Abeijón have taken a different approach to music, tapping into a range of genres from tropic pop to electric funk.

The case began in the fall of 2019, when the eight East L.A. deputies — Art Hernandez, Alfred Gonzalez, Benjamin Zaredini, David Casas, Louis Granados, Mario Contreras, Oscar Escobedo and Ariela Lemus — sued both the county and four alleged Banditos.
