This is why, not long after the most recent farm bill, you saw a rush of hemp-derived products, in smoke shops across the country, that did not feature intoxicating levels of THC but contained all sorts of other cannabis compounds, like CBD and delta-8.

Not only would it be a setback for marijuana legalization in general, but it would inflict significant pain upon the locals who’ve benefited from the state’s hemp products, whether they’re small-shop owners who sell CBD drinks or customers who consume hemp products to manage physical pain.

There are at least 118 cannabinoids in the plant that go beyond the well-known THC and CBD, and they all interact with one another to produce different kinds of highs.

“I think we fetishize high THC, and we could do a lot better with lower THC,” he said, adding that CBD can mitigate some of the addictive qualities of cannabis, and other cannabinoids have more medical benefits.
