It would have been one of nine new centres replacing the existing 46 control rooms across the country.

Nadina Hill, a mother-of-two who works part-time at an emergency services control room, has been trying to keep on top of her cooking and energy costs.

She is one of 130 volunteers in Wales trained to attend the scene of 999 calls to provide "eyes and ears" observations for staff in the control room.

The result is a surreal portrait that mimics the shape of an eyeball, a metaphorical reminder of the control room watching the contestants’ every move.

It was told that recruitment and training pressures for the security provider meant that the centre's control room operator was not "competent".
