The European Commission told the BBC on Saturday that Trump's latest move on tariffs "undermines ongoing efforts" to reach a deal, warning about "countermeasures".

China has also halted and scrapped other non-tariff countermeasures, such as the export of critical minerals to the US, which it put in place in response to the initial escalation.

The European Union meanwhile said it would be pausing the countermeasures it had planned to impose on the US from 15 April also for 90 days.

A little more than half of MGA’s products are made in China, which on Tuesday vowed to take countermeasures against the United States after Trump threatened an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports.

Donald Trump has threatened China with an extra tariff of 50% on goods imported into the US if it does not withdraw a countermeasure it announced on Friday.
