The European Union meanwhile said it would be pausing the countermeasures it had planned to impose on the US from 15 April also for 90 days.

A little more than half of MGA’s products are made in China, which on Tuesday vowed to take countermeasures against the United States after Trump threatened an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports.

Donald Trump has threatened China with an extra tariff of 50% on goods imported into the US if it does not withdraw a countermeasure it announced on Friday.

China on Thursday urged Trump to immediately lift the new tariffs or face swift countermeasures.

Discussions are currently under way on an even bigger package of countermeasures that are due to come in at the end of April.
