Asked about the Elk Grove representative’s comments, spokesperson Jennifer Cressy said “his views have not changed” since 2018, when McClintock railed against tariffs in a House floor speech.

On Friday afternoon, 85-year-old Carol Cressy visited what remained of her home.

“The Bible says don’t put your faith in material possessions,” Cressy said.

Cressy volunteered with the local Democratic Party to register voters and stayed up late on Tuesday night to watch the election results.

As a former educator who traveled overseas for 25 years, Cressy amassed a collection of goods, furniture and keepsakes from Germany, Japan and other parts of the world.
