Losing the series to the Edmonton Oilers in the way that the Kings did is inexcusable.

EDMONTON, Canada — Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the summer is starting early for the Kings after a first-round playoff loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

They seemed primed for a long run in the postseason but once again, they couldn’t get by Edmonton.

The winger parked himself in front of the net and was shielding Edmonton goalie Calvin Pickard when he reached out to redirect a pass from Anze Kopitar near the blue line.

“I’m jealously watching the Kings and Edmonton play,” he said, “or seeing Toronto, where they have just as many fans outside as they do inside. We’re building for that future.”
