In the disposition of its markings, it approaches near to the shell represented in the Ency.

M. Lamarck is, I think, mistaken in the synonyms of this shell, which is represented in the Ency.

I have no doubt that the bird we saw is the same as Bougainville procured, and from which a description has been given in the Ency.

This bird is common to the Strait as well as to Chil�e, and is probably Byron's 'Painted Duck,' and the Anser pictus of the Ency.
