Fort Gordon was named after Lt.

Later this year in Georgia, Fort Gordon outside Augusta will be renamed for former President Dwight Eisenhower, who served as a five-star Army general.

The corps said it was following a 2021 federal law which governs renaming military bases christened for confederates, including Georgia’s Fort Gordon and Fort Benning.

The Army chose Fort Gordon, describing its pick as a “distinguished and popular native-born soldier and statesman of Georgia.”

They include Fort Gordon, Georgia, which will be renamed Fort Eisenhower after the former president and 5-star general.
