Toni Morrison, whose “Beloved” changed me when I first read it as a teen, showed me how a novel can be ghost story, reckoning, testimony and lullaby all at once.

Since his last outing as Draco, Felton featured in the 2011 sci-fi movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and made his West End theatre debut in the 2022 play, 2:22 A Ghost Story.

He and Koepp had previously collaborated on “Kimi” and the ghost story “Presence,” and Soderbergh liked that the script had broad appeal.

In a time of twisty, “prestige” supernatural horror, the good, old-fashioned ghost story has fallen by the wayside.

“Presence” is being sold as a ghost story, but it’s more like a family drama disguised under a sheet.
