The soprano Janai Brugger was tender as Giasone’s new bride, Glauce; the bass Michele Pertusi was solidly paternal as her father, Creonte; and, as Medea’s attendant, Neris, the mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova sang her big aria with sisterly warmth, accompanied by a rich-toned solo from the bassoonist Evan Epifanio.

It also stars tenor Matthew Polenzani as Giasone, soprano Janai Brugger as his bride Glauce, bass Michele Pertusi as her father Creonte and mezzo Ekaterina Gubanova as Medea’s attendant Neris, and will be conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

After Jason abandons her to marry the young and beautiful Glauce, Medea sends Glauce tainted “wedding gifts”: a silken robe and a golden coronet, both infused with a lethal and combustible poison.
