“It’s a bit of a crisis-tunity,” noted Dafna Kaplan, chief executive of Cassette Systems, a modular homebuilding company she founded in 2020.

“It’s not that they want a modular home. They want easy homebuilding.”

For years, modular companies have vowed to revolutionize the homebuilding industry only to fail spectacularly or plod along amid technological problems and skepticism about limited designs and quality.

He said: "As proposed it will add thousands of pounds to the cost of new homes, threatening the viability of sites across swathes of the country at a time when industry is striving to reverse the decline in homebuilding numbers that we have seen in recent years."

Seven out of 10 wanted more regulations to curb homebuilding in wildfire-prone neighborhoods.
