She was responding after a number of attacks on homes in a mixed housing scheme in north Belfast, which has led some residents to say they plan to leave the area.

Clanmil Housing Association, which operates the housing scheme, has said the attacks are a "sectarian-motivated hate crime".

A council spokesperson added: "The council has also introduced a Community Housing Scheme, an equity sharing product, to support people to get on the housing ladder."

By August 2018 – two months after federal officials publicly confirmed the controversial housing scheme – the American Civil Liberties Union filed suit, alleging that it was a violation of the migrants’ due process rights under the Fifth Amendment.
