Maui County officials said Wednesday that they picked the permanent disposal site in Kahului over two others that are closer to Lahaina, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

The epicenter was about 135 miles southeast of Kahului, the largest town on Maui, and about 215 miles from Honolulu.

George Hall III was from Kahului, another town on the island.

The teams soon resumed practices, first in a gym in Kahului and later at a park in Kihei, the community about 45 minutes away where high school students attended classes during Lahainaluna’s closure.
