Cows have been rescued after a livestock lorry overturned on the M1 motorway on Friday morning.

New South Wales state police said the incident occurred on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Ourimbah, north of Sydney.

The body of a man has been found in undergrowth next to the M1, police said.

The first to open was Lancashire's Preston Bypass, now part of the M6, in 1958 - but the M1 became the first to link up far-flung towns and cities the following year.
