When Israel launched its campaign, the U.S. and Iran were in the midst of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program, with the sixth round of those negotiations slated for Sunday in the Omani capital, Muscat.

Araghchi said on Sunday that his Omani counterpart had presented "elements of a US proposal, which will be appropriately responded to in line with the principles, national interests and rights of the people of Iran".

Two previous rounds of the negotiations were held in Muscat with one taking place in the Omani embassy in Rome.

Shortly afterwards the Omani foreign minister posted that the deal meant neither side would target the other, "ensuring freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping".
