Peña’s formidable Ophelia might be the production’s saving grace.

As a preteen, I read my mother’s copy of Mary Pipher’s Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls, and still recall coming across a passage about how girls will often focus on the well-being of animals as a kind of projection of helplessness and a desire for power and protection they lack.

He made her strip while performing one of Ophelia's monologues in Hamlet.

The student said in her testimony that she was made to strip while doing a monologue by Ophelia from Hamlet, and that he would tell her to "do what your teacher says".
