“I didn’t realize it was the other side of the tracks, and no one wanted to go there at night,” he said.

With the exception of a cluster of homes on the other side of the tracks, the surrounding acreage is primarily agricultural.

“We designed it, but were like, ‘Oh, my gosh, people are not going to do this, they’re just gonna stay on the other side of the tracks,’ ” Hoyt said.

The story is set in the city of Element, where beings made of the four elements – water, air, earth and fire – reside in harmony, with the exception of fire elementals, who are seen as dangerous and largely relegated to the other side of the tracks.
