“I heard her monitor wasn’t working,” says Huerta, his voice shaking, “and she had to see the frame from the steady cam. … If I was there I could have put her monitor out of harm’s way. I always made sure she was out of the danger. Any time the gun was pointed, I would make sure that monitor was safe.”

“It isn’t normal. We want people to get out of harm’s way.”

Since then, he and his team have managed to get about 3,000 civilians out of harm's way, taking them away from front lines to safer areas.

It was in this difficult environment that a group of emergency officials established a mobile command center to coordinate the fight against the Eaton fire and help get residents out of harm’s way.

My own neighborhood of Del Rey was likely out of harm’s way.
