Last week, Bill Owens, the executive producer of “60 Minutes,” resigned, citing additional corporate pressure over coverage.

Owens, who is still working at the program for a few more weeks, was known for being protective of the program’s independence.

On Tuesday, The New York Times broke the story that Owens, who has spent 37 years with CBS News, 24 of them with “60 Minutes,” informed his staff that he would be stepping down.

This week, the program lost its executive producer, Bill Owens, only the third person to hold the job in the show’s storied history.

Buck Owens, a famous musician friend who in the late 1960s was about to be on “Hee Haw,” dropped her name for consideration by the folks casting the show.
