Opera lovers already know most of them intimately — from Mozart and Rossini, and perhaps also from settings by Giovanni Paisiello and Marcos Portugal, which On Site Opera presented in past seasons as part of its trilogy of off-the-beaten-path Beaumarchais adaptations.

This was not Rossini’s eternally popular 1816 opera, however, but Giovanni Paisiello’s version, first performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1782.

Paisiello’s “Barber” has been pushed off the boards by Rossini’s staple.

Paisiello gave Bartolo’s two servants meaty roles, sung with flair by the baritone Benjamin Bloomfield and the soprano Jessica Rose Futran.

No, not the famous one by Rossini, but Giovanni Paisiello’s take on the Beaumarchais play.
