With their striking looks and distinctive style, the duo of Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus were tailor-made for the MTV era.

The National Transportation Safety Board published its final report on the crash last week, nearly two years after the single-engine Pilatus PC-12 crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near the southern edge of the Outer Banks.

Largely forgotten now, the duo of Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan had burst onto the music scene with a 1988 album titled “Girl You Know It’s True.”

It sold several million copies worldwide and won the duo, Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, a Grammy Award as best new artist.

But the next year, Mr. Farian revealed that the songs on the album were actually sung by studio vocalists, and that in performance Mr. Pilatus and Mr. Morvan — energetic dancers who put on a crowd-pleasing show — were lip-syncing.
