Nasir and I are in the city of Quetta, sitting in the waiting room of the largest military hospital in the province of Balochistan.

Later, an officer drove us through Quetta's roads in a bus flanked by soldiers carrying rifles and ammunition hanging from their pockets.

"I didn't know back then that the first time I'd go to Quetta, it would be for a protest demanding his release," Saira says.

The 70-year-old lives in a small mud house on the outskirts of Quetta, not far from a symbolic graveyard dedicated to the missing.
