“I welcome any policymaker to visit, listen and witness the hard-working immigrant communities that make our county strong,” Sarmiento, who represents the county’s 2nd District, said in a post to social media.

Sarmiento’s district includes the city of Santa Ana, where immigrant communities have been hit with ICE raids since June.

“There’s a huge contrast between the work we do on the ground — supporting families with food, resources, and hope — and an administration whose policies feel designed to crush the very communities we serve,” Sarmiento added.

Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento told City News Service he would only meet with Vance if the vice president addresses local fears, saying the raids are “terrorizing residents and shuttering our businesses and making people live in fear.”

“We saw videos on social media of people being detained really aggressively by what looked to be both masked and armed ICE agents and others that were in full military gear,” said Orange County Supervisor Vincent Sarmiento.
