Another extraordinary tale was that of Takaya, the lone sea wolf whose spirit captured worldwide attention.

Tayaka was a rare species of canine known as the coastal or sea wolf.

His son, Daniel, sent a note from Chile, calling him “my old sea wolf.”

After all, he notes, “In Spanish sea lions are called lobos marinos, or sea wolves!”

When hunting for food, sea wolves can swim miles between islands and rocky outcrops to feast on seals and animal carcasses found on the rocks.
