Already down two key starters — Plum and Odyssey Sims — the Sparks were forced to piece together a new starting lineup on short notice.

Standing at 5-foot-8, Sims — one of the Sparks’ fiercest competitors — helped keep the team in the game, scoring a game-high 32 points.

Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims, of Merseyside Police, told a news conference seven people remain in hospital after the incident.

Assistant Chief Constable Sims, said she understood many have questions about the incident, and detectives were "working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek the answer to all of those questions".

Merseyside's Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: "It is believed the driver of the Ford Galaxy car involved in this incident was able to follow an ambulance on to Water Street, after the roadblock was temporarily lifted so that the ambulance crew could attend to a member of the public who was having a suspected heart attack."
