Like the UK parliament vote, Swinney said the Scottish government would not stand in the way of the legislation and that SNP MSPs would have a free vote.

It took only a few minutes from the announcement of Harbour's job losses to Prime Minister's Questions, with both the Conservatives and SNP piling on the pressure.

The prime minister said "nobody wants to see job losses", but accused the SNP of trying to "distract from their disastrous record" after nearly two decades in government.

Unlike their political cousins in Scotland, the SNP, Plaid has never won a Welsh election and came third last time round.

The SNP MSP told reporters if that happened then changes to the law as it stands would need to be considered.
