On April 17, two students were killed in a shooting at Florida State University’s student union.

Some student unions, such as at Swansea and Cardiff University, also offer a "five free items" scheme to help students access essentials.

"It was easier to get support from the United Nations than our own student union," Ms Listrat said.

A spokesperson for the student union said the event had been cancelled "in discussion with organisers".
