With a 7-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son, it just made sense for Slade and his ex-wife to stay on Vashon Island and co-parent.

After resigning as the band’s frontman in 2022, Slade and his family left his home state of Colorado and landed on Vashon Island, a place where many celebrities have moved to live a quieter life.

With a diverse vinyl catalog, Slade hopes his little music hub can become a place of discovery for the Vashon Island community.

Communities at highest risk for shut-offs include Greenwater, Pierce County; Skykomish; Concrete, Skagit County; rural areas east of Snoqualmie Pass like Cle Elum and Kittitas; and parts of west Thurston County and Vashon Island, which have pockets of dense vegetation.

He was raised on Vashon Island, Wash. — sparse and bucolic with an artsy populace, a few miles southwest of Seattle — in a house without a TV, where meals were mostly eaten at home, his free time spent fashioning handmade puppets onto chopsticks.
