CLA president Victoria Vyvyan said the "clawback" proposal would limit the damage to family businesses while targeting "those who have bought land to shelter wealth for short-term gain".

"Open them up, and we could lose them forever," its president, Victoria Vyvyan, explained.

In a letter to Sir Keir following the committee hearing, Victoria Vyvyan, president of the Country Land and Business Association, said: "Let's stop and think. Let's not just crash forward, hoping against hope that this will turn out alright or it will turn out differently."

Its president, Victoria Vyvyan said: "We estimate that capping agricultural property relief at £1m could harm 70,000 UK farms, damaging family businesses and destabilising food security."

Victoria Vyvyan, the CLA’s president, added that criticisms “overlook a simple truth: alongside feeding the country, many farmers are investing their own time and money protecting nature and fighting climate change”.
