An assessment established Kesete’s correct date of birth and she was transferred from youth custody to Hydebank Women’s Prison.

Youth Justice Minister Nic Dakin said the new Labour government had inherited a system "in crisis" but was now "working towards a clear strategy for youth custody reform".

He was remanded into youth custody ahead of a pre-trial hearing on 25 October and a provisional six-week trial date has been set for January.

The Youth Custody Service said at the time that "immediate" changes had been made.
