Just as in the Iranian myth the original being, Gâyômard, considered as human, and the ancestor bull belong together, so we find in the northern myth a cow Audhumla associated with Ymir.

Audhumla was the name of that cow.

One day Ymir saw Audhumla breathe upon a cliff of ice and lick with her tongue the place she breathed on.

Audhumla, the Giant Cow, went on licking the place where she had breathed.

But he knew that if he did this, Audhumla would feed him no more with her milk.
